I am starting my second page with the other of my two pictures of the village sign, and I will be exploring some of the other elements of the sign in here.

About 10 minutes walk north of the centre of the village is Bradbourne House, which is reputed to be haunted. It was the home of the Twisden family, who were the Lords of the Manor, but is now a horticultural research establishment.

I pointed a telephoto lens through the gates and got a distant view of both the house, on the right, and what I'm assuming may have been the stable block on the left.

The next three pictures fit in very well with the village sign: on the left we have an orchard which is part of the Bradbourne House establishment, and was photographed from the footpath behind the Church, while the centre and right pictures are of blackberries, which were hanging over a wall I passed when I walked to the gates of Bradbourne House.

I am now returning to the village centre, where the War Memorial is on the fourth (north east) corner of the crossroads at the centre of the village.

The picture on the right was a "mistake": I was checking the exposure and I pushed the shutter button all the way down and got a picture! It's in focus and the horizon's level, so I've left it in.

Here are some detail shots of the War Memorial.

I walked south of the centre of the village towards the railway station. The village map indicated that there were some Roman remains in that area, but I didn't find them and think that they are probably not where the casual visitor can see them.

I found a pub called "The Ship" near the railway station. The "for sale" boards appear to tell the story there.

This row of cottages are on the same road as "The Ship", but they are closer to the village centre.

This house is opposite the entrance to the Church. It has an interesting design of bricks of two different colours.
