Llyn Tegid is the lake near Bala. You can view its north shore from Bala, or you can go the long way round and view its south shore, which has a road running most of its length. The route of one of the many narrow guage steam trains to be found in Wales also runs along the south shore of Llyn Tegid.

I'm starting this page off with a panorama shot from the south shore of Llyn Tegid from a space where there's a convenient view of both the lake and oncoming steam trains. Do be aware that clicking on this image will open a 256KB file, so it may take a little while to appear.

I used one of my Pentax MZ-M cameras loaded with 200ASA negative film and mounted on a tripod and I panned it around a little between each shot, leaving about a 15% overlap. Although I used a constant manual exposure and scanned all 15 of the resulting negatives using the same scanner settings, I got a certain amount of fluctuation of brightness and colour, some of which hasn't been corrected by the stitching programme, which was Realviz Stitcher 3.1 - a freebie with Digital Camera magazine.

This panorama held up my whole holiday website for some time because I had a bit of trouble with Stitcher 3.1 - it turned out not to like dealing with 30MB bitmaps, and when I put my 15 images into PhotoShop and resized them, it went happily to work, albeit without adjusting some of the extremes of colour and brightness variation, which I really should have attended to myself rather than expecting Stitcher 3.1 to do it for me.

These two images were taken on colour side, which tends to produce much brighter colours than my negative film does. You will recognise these two views from the panorama above.

Finally, here are two pictures of the steam train.
