When I first moved to England, I lived in the Medway Towns in Kent, and I was familiar with the views of Rochester. It wasn't until I moved up to London that I took many photographs of the area though: have you ever noticed that you ignore what's in your own backyard? Anyway, I don't live all that far away, and I make the occasional tourist expedition back to the area. These usually happen when I have a visitor to show around, and although these pictures weren't all taken when showing the same visitor around, there was often a visitor present on the expedition.

The ruins of the Norman keep of Rochester Castle are visible for miles around, both by day and by night. I was very pleased with this night time shot taken with my recently acquired Pentax MX camera. |
Nothing special was used - just a tripod and a shutter release cable, and I counted the 15 seconds exposure time using my wristwatch. The film was 200ASA Jessops and the lens was my standard Pentax 50mm lens. |

Here are two more shots taken at the same time. |

The Cathedral is opposite the Castle. On the left, you can see the Cathedral viewed from high up in the Castle. The Chapter House is to the left. On the right, you can see the front of the Cathedral viewed from street level. Below, as the spire appears at night under floodlights. |
