The Adelaide Hills were among the earliest places in South Australia to be settled by Europeans. A number of historic mills still exist throughout the area. |

I took this photograph of the Bridgewater Mill late one drizzly afternoon. The mill has been converted into a restaurant and I had to carry out some judicious cropping to eliminate the deck area with its umbrella-covered tables. |

Nixon's Mill was a windmill. It originally had two sails, although a restoration during the sixties gave it four sails for a while. It was also restored with a dome shaped roof at one time, although this was not authentic either. These non-authentic restorations have been removed and the current restoration project appears to have ground to a halt and the mill is now enclosed within a chain wire fence with a padlock on the gate. Nixon's Mill is located at "Windmill on the Hill" between Mount Barker and Hahndorf. |
