The A525 route between Ruthin and Llangollen goes via the Horseshoe Pass, and offers spectacular views down the valleys. The first few pictures were taken during the climb up towards Horseshoe Pass and show the valley falling away to the west. These pictures were taken on Jessops 200ISO colour negative film, and I spent quite a lot of time trying to get the colours to match up with the rest of the pictures on this page, which were taken on Kodak Elitechrome Extra Colour 100 slide film. |

On the left is one of the many quarries which are dotted around the Welsh countryside; and on the right is the view westward down the valley. |

Here is one of the gliders we saw being launched from a nearby airfield. We took a lot of pictures of the gliders, but the expenditure of film did not give us great returns, and this is about the best picture I managed. |

We then crossed over the Horsehoe Pass. There is a car park and somewhere to eat right at the top, but the best views are to be had at a large lay-by just to the south side of the Pass. The rest of the views on this page are taken from that vantage point and look down the valley to the south. |

I thought when I photographed the view on the left that the escarpments were as a result of mining, but you can't really tell from this picture. There's another picture later which clearly shows the mining or quarrying activities. The view on the right gives you just a peep at Llangollen at the bottom of the valley. |

Here is the broad view of the valley, and the first of a number of closer views which include a red farmhouse I must have taken a liking to. |

Here are three more closer views which include the red farmhouse. |

Here I've zoomed out again, for two more general views of the whole valley. There's even a tiny bit of sky in these, but I mostly avoided the sky because it wasn't very interesting. The day was quite hot, and we got through a lot of bottled water as a result, but despite the heat, conditions were fairly overcast. |

Here I've zoomed in again, but this time on the white farmhouse near the top of the picture above the previous lot of text. |

This picture is an attempt to include foreground interest (in the form of the flowering tree and the gate) while also including some farm buildings futher away. I think it was slightly out of range of the capabilities of my lens and isn't as sharp as I would have wished for. |

The final picture on this page is another attempt at foreground interest (cattle this time) and farm buildings further away. I really should have checked this scene out a bit more carefully through my lens or with binoculars before snapping it though: that's quite a messy field where farmer keeps that caravan! |
